Google Shopping Feed
A Google Shopping feed lists your products for Google Shopping ads and free listings in Google Merchant Center. Google Shopping feeds are available on every plan, including the free Starter plan.
Create the feed
Section titled “Create the feed”- In Feedy, click Feeds in the left menu, then Create New Feed.
- Under Platform, choose Google Shopping.
- Enter a Feed Name, for example “Google - US”.
- Pick a Feed Format. TSV is selected by default and is a good choice for Google. XML and CSV also work. See Feed formats.
- Under Target Market, choose the Country, Language and Currency for this feed.
- Click through to Products, choose which products to include, then review and create the feed.
Feedy builds the feed in the background and shows a progress bar. When it finishes, you’re taken to the Feeds list.
What goes into a Google feed
Section titled “What goes into a Google feed”Each Shopify product appears once in the feed. Price, SKU, barcode and stock come from the product’s first variant.
For each product, Feedy includes the ID, title, description, product link, main image and extra images, price, availability, condition and brand. It also includes these when it has the data:
- GTIN (barcode), MPN and identifier exists
- Google product category and product type
- Color, size, material, pattern, gender and age group
- Sale price and sale price dates
- Shipping zones, handling and transit times, shipping weight and shipping label
- Tax regions
- Custom labels 0 to 4
- Short title, product highlights, item group ID and expiration date (paused products are left out of the feed)
Product links use your store’s primary domain, for example https://www.your-store.com/products/<handle>. Feedy reads the primary domain from Shopify when the app is installed or re-authorised and on every full product sync (Sync Products). If you change your primary domain, click Sync Products, then regenerate your feeds. Until Feedy has a primary domain, links use your myshopify.com address. If UTM tracking is on, Feedy adds the UTM parameters to each link.
Your edits on a product’s page in Feedy (custom title, description, category and so on) are used in Google Shopping feeds. See Editing a product.
Which products are left out
Section titled “Which products are left out”A product is left out of Google feeds when it has a validation Error. The most common Google errors are:
- No Google Product Category set on the product in Feedy. The feed’s default category doesn’t fix this error.
- No brand.
- No GTIN on a branded product. If the product has no barcode, set Identifier exists to No on the product page.
- No description, no image or no price.
See Validation rules for the full list, and Fixing missing attributes for how to fix them.
Products can also be left out by your feed’s filters, or because the feed has reached your plan’s product limit. See Products missing from a feed.
Add the feed to Google Merchant Center
Section titled “Add the feed to Google Merchant Center”You can give Merchant Center your feed URL so Google fetches it on a schedule:
- On the feed’s page in Feedy, click Copy URL.
- In Google Merchant Center, add a new product source and choose to add products from a file using a URL (scheduled fetch).
- Paste the feed URL and choose how often Google should fetch it.
Step-by-step instructions are in Adding your feed URL to Merchant Center. If you turned on feed protection, use the protected URL that includes your token. See Feed security.
You can also connect your Merchant Center account to Feedy to track product approval status. See Connecting to Google Merchant Center.
Keep the feed up to date
Section titled “Keep the feed up to date”Feedy doesn’t rebuild a feed every time a product changes. To keep it current:
- Turn on a schedule in the feed’s Schedule card. See Automatic updates.
- Or click Regenerate on the feed’s page when you need to. See Regenerating a feed.
Set Google’s fetch schedule to run after Feedy’s regeneration time.
Common problems
Section titled “Common problems”The feed has fewer products than my store. Check the product’s validation errors on the Products page. Missing Google Product Category, brand and GTIN are the usual causes.
Merchant Center shows prices in the wrong currency. Feedy labels prices with the feed’s currency but doesn’t convert them. Set the feed’s Currency to your store currency.
Feed status is Empty. Every product was left out, usually because all of them have errors. Fix the errors, then click Regenerate.
