AI Category Suggestions

Google Shopping needs a Google Product Category on every product. In Feedy, a product without one has a validation error and is left out of your Google Shopping feeds. The AI can suggest a category for you.

The AI reads the product’s title, description, vendor, product type and tags, and picks the most specific category it can from Google’s product taxonomy, for example Sporting Goods > Winter Sports & Activities > Snowboarding > Snowboards rather than just Sporting Goods.

  1. Go to Products and open a product.
  2. Next to Google Product Category, click ✨ AI.
  3. Review the suggestion, then click Accept, Edit or Dismiss.
  4. Click Save.

✨ AI Optimize All also suggests a category, but only when the product doesn’t have one yet.

  1. Go to Products and select the products that need a category.
  2. Click Optimize N with AI.
  3. Tick Google Product Categories and click Start Optimization.
  4. Check the Categories tab in Review AI Suggestions and apply the ones that are right.

Each run handles up to 15 products.

Category suggestions are usually close, but always check them. A wrong category can put your product in front of the wrong shoppers or trigger extra requirements in Google Merchant Center. If a suggestion is wrong, pick the category yourself in the Google Product Category search field.

  • Each suggestion uses 1 AI credit. See AI Credits & Usage.
  • The category is saved in Feedy, not in Shopify, and is used by your Google Shopping feeds.
  • A feed’s Default Google Product Category (in the feed’s Basic Settings) does not clear the “missing Google Product Category” validation error, so it won’t bring uncategorized products into a Google Shopping feed. Set the category on each product.
